The two biggest variable costs are the PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) study — a one-off €8,000–€25,000 via an external assessor — and GS1 membership for a Digital Link resolver at €500–€1,500/year. Internal compliance-team time runs 240–400 person-hours for the first passport. TracePass plans start at €49/month (Basic, ~9 AI extractions included) and €350/month (Starter, a €75 monthly AI budget for mid-volume extraction). The software is the line that reduces the person-hours; it is not an extra layer on top of the PEF study or the GS1 cost.
A consulting gap-analysis-plus-implementation engagement typically runs in the four-to-five-figure range per project and recurs per product line — most of the cost is the data-collection work. A platform is a flat monthly fee you keep and re-run for every product. Consulting is the better choice when you need source data created from scratch (a PEF study, a conformity assessment); a platform is the better choice when the data exists and the bottleneck is assembly and maintenance. Enterprise serial-volume pricing is available. Battery, EV, tyre, and high-volume electronics manufacturers with serial-level mandates routinely run into the 100K – 10M+ passports/year range, and the standard overage rates make those deals economically untenable. Every paid plan includes GS1 Digital Link QR codes, the public passport viewer (HTML + JSON-LD content negotiation), and tenant-wide bulk export at no extra charge. The custom-domain QR resolver ships on all paid plans too, making the URL on your printed QR portable forever — no vendor lock-in on the physical asset. AI extraction and the supplier portal are included on every plan, including Free — what scales with the tier is the monthly AI budget and the number of supplier requests, not whether you can use them. NFC unlocks at Pro; all other features are included from the first paid tier.
Annual is about two months cheaper than monthly. The discount mirrors industry-standard 15–20% annual savings; we apply it consistently across all paid plans. Annual subscriptions are billed upfront. You can switch annual ↔ monthly at renewal time without penalty.
30-day grace at no charge. Your published Digital Product Passports remain publicly resolvable for 30 days after cancellation so QR codes printed on physical products don't brick mid-migration. If you operated on a custom domain (every paid plan), the grace window is the time to re-point your DNS at another vendor — the URL on the printed QR is yours forever because the domain is yours. Your data is exported in JSON-LD on demand at no fee. Resubscribing later brings expired passports back online, as many as the plan allows. See the Terms of Service.
Yes. Downgrades that reduce the passport cap below your active count may trigger an overage charge on the remaining passports at the new plan's per-passport rate; we warn you before you confirm. Upgrades apply immediately with prorated charges.
Yes — the Free tier lets you create three passports end-to-end, including AI extraction, GS1 QR code generation, and the public passport page. The account has no time limit and needs no credit card; a passport published on Free stays live for 30 days, then expires. When you need more passports or passports that don't expire, you upgrade to a paid plan — and passports that expired on Free come back online, as many as the plan allows.
EPCIS 2.0 — export, capture and query — is included on every plan, Free included. Tiers differ by event volume per month (Free 10, Basic 1,000, Starter 10,000, Growth 100,000, Scale 1,000,000, Pro 10,000,000, Enterprise unlimited). On paid plans, overage past the included allowance is opt-in at a per-1,000-event block rate that decreases as the tier grows. Free hitting its cap requires an upgrade to keep capturing. Yes — TracePass ships a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, listed on the official MCP Registry as eu.tracepass/tracepass. AI assistants like Claude or Cursor can manage products, passports, and EPCIS events directly. It's included on every plan, Free included, at no extra cost — authenticate with an API key or OAuth 2.0 Connect. Use the hosted endpoint or the local npm package.
Yes — TracePass ships a free, open-source (MIT) n8n community node (n8n-nodes-tracepass), built to n8n's verification guidelines. Install it from any n8n instance via Settings → Community Nodes, authenticate with your existing TracePass API key, and wire products, passports, and EPCIS events into workflows alongside Shopify, Slack, Schedule, and 400+ other integrations.
